Free Music Friday With Prince Rupert’s Drops And Nervous Curtains

Welcome to another installment of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday. Our featured bands today share a common affinity for psychedelic pop and 60’s music. The first, Prince Rupert’s Drops comes to us from Brooklyn, NY. Their track, “Pillar To Post” is a beat driven trip back to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury scene. Track 2 today comes to us from the Lone Star State’s Nervous Curtains. It’s called “Wired To Make Waves” and it has punk overtones, yet smacks of early Devo.

    Free Music Friday With Balmorhea

Hello again and welcome to another edition of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday. Today we are pleased to bring you an instrumental band from Austin, Texas called Balmorhea.

The band won initial attention for the “lush with a slow-burning, wordless, and ambient Americana,” (New Yorker) found in the cosmic dialog begun with their eponymous debut in 2007. That attention was furthered by subsequent releases in 2008 (Rivers Arms), 2009 (All is Wild, All is Silent), and 2010 (Constellations).

Free Music Friday With Glass Theory And Io Echo

Well, here we are at the end of another week and on the doorstep of another Free Music Friday. The sad news that musician Bob Welch has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound crossed our desks yesterday. It seems as if rock’s royalty is disappearing at an alarming rate these days. As much as we would like to pay each one of them our respects and send them on their way from this world with a fitting tribute, we’re beginning to think that this blog could quickly turn in to an obituary section, something none of us wants. So as much as we can we are going to keep mention of death to a bare minimum and get on with music news for the living. This one’s for Bob.

This week’s Free Music Friday is dedicated to the memory of Donna Summer. Although she gained the title of Queen of Disco, Summer grew up on a steady diet of rock and roll, the influence of which can be heard throughout her musical career. And in turn, she influenced many of the singers that would follow her. Donna Summer died of cancer Thursday morning in Naples, Fla. She was 63.
