    S. Carey Releases ‘Hoyas’ EP This May

Hoyas by S. Carey of Bon Iver is a hospitable statement about love, longing and the celebration of knowing it well. You will find the familiar S. Carey modern classical repetition pushed into the vernacular of electronic music and beat-making. This is the warmest electronic music you’ll ever meet. The beats swing, stutter and pulse while each instrument retains a heightened awareness of its form and function within the larger family of voices.

Free Music Friday With Solander And Haroula Rose

Hi everyone and welcome to another edition of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday. This week’s edition is dedicated to Whitney Houston. Although she fought a constant battle with drug and alcohol addiction, she possessed one of the best voices ever to grace the musical stage. Her incredible range and ability to convey thought and emotion through her voice were second to none. She will be missed.

Video Premier Of Milo Greene Tour Kickoff

    By Myles Crawley

Last week we caught up with Los Angeles based band Milo Greene as they were kicking off their new tour at The Roost in Bellingham, Washington. The band had just finished recording their debut album, for Chop Shop/Atlantic, at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville. So a quick trip up to Bellingham (which is just shy of the border with Canada) seemed like the perfect starting place for a tour that was going to, as Robbie Arnett states in the video, “caterpillar down the west coast.”

The Lumineers Announce Self-Titled Debut Album

The Denver, Colorado based band, The Lumineers, are proud to announce the release of their self-titled debut album, out on April 3rd via Dualtone. The band’s style of emotive, powerful folk-rock has garnered comparisons to Edward Sharpe and Mumford and Sons, and is in line with Dualtone’s history of supporting talented folk acts. The album was produced and mixed by Ryan Hadlock (Foo Fighters, Ra Ra Riot, Metric) at Bear Creek Studios, with additional mixing by Kevin Augunas (The Black Keys, Cold War Kids, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros) at Fairfax Recordings, and follows the band’s eponymous self-recorded EP that was released earlier in 2011.

    Introducing The New Limb

Captivating audiences along the west coast, the Silver Lake, CA quartet The New Limb pull from a century’s worth of influences to make music that appeals to a wide range of listeners. Named “Best Live Band” by The OC Weekly, KROQ raves “The New Limb’s lush, organically evocative indie-pop channels yearning as it feels in any moment you’ve had true desire. In short, The New Limb is the first crush you will never forget and see in everyone around you,” adding the band’s “gorgeously intense” music “sweeps you in with ecstatic Swede-couture electronica reminiscent of The Knife and moody indie twang like The Shins. Both the lyrics and Joey Chavez‘ voice call to mind the boyish, literate theatrics of Rufus Wainwright.”

Human Woman Debut New Single And Spinning Video For ‘Delusional’

Icelandic duo Human Woman have teamed up with hfn music (Trentemøller, Kasper Bjørke) to release the single ‘Delusional‘ in advance of their forthcoming LP due out later this year. Comprised of Gisli Galdur (aka Galdur) of Icelandic band Trabant and producer Jón Atli Helgason (aka Sexy Lazer), Human Woman have forged a fantastic fusion of modern electronic pop with the debut single. Taking influences across the board, the duo have cooked up a sensual, catchy indie-dance track that is pleasingly reminiscent of the 80s. Directed by Einar Snorri and Helgason, the psychedelic video for ‘Delusional’ merges footage of a master hula-hoopist with prismatic images that mirror the shapes she creates.

Free Music Friday With Simone Felice And Lucy Michelle & The Velvet Lapelles

Hi everybody and welcome to the third edition of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday for 2012. Sadly, we received news of Etta James’ passing this morning in Riverside, California. She died of complications from leukemia at age 73. The singer had one of the best and most versatile voices in the business. Her songs, often drenched in strings, were big winners for Chess Records. Some, like her signature hit “At Last” went on to be absolute staples. Etta was inducted into both the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall Of Fame. Over the course of her career she won four Grammy awards, one of which was for best jazz vocal performance, which she won in 1995 for the album Mystery Lady: Songs of Billie Holiday. Etta died with her husband and sons at her bedside. This edition of Free Music Friday is dedicated to her. Rest in peace Etta!

Gabriel & The Hounds: Album Review

    By J. Brown

Brooklyn-based artist Gabriel & The Hounds has joined the blossoming record label Communion, which is releasing this artist’s debut record in the UK at the end of February (released by Ernest Jennings Record Co. in US). Entitled Kiss Full of Teeth, musician and songwriter Gabriel Levine is the man behind the moniker “Gabriel & The Hounds,” and while Levine wrote all the songs on the album, it isn’t quite a solo effort, as he is joined by a variety of artists in an effort that is a perfect mix of solitary and communal. Among those who came together to record this album include performers who are in or have recorded with The National, Beirut, St Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, tUnE-yArDs, Bjork, and Jonsi (proving it pays to have friends in high places).

A Visit With The Glass Canoe

    By Alana Crawley

The Glass Canoe was originally the title of an award winning book by Australian author David Ireland. The book’s main character, Meat Man, viewed the world through the bottom of his beer mug, which he referred to as his very own glass canoe. A couple of months back we introduced you to a new interpretation of The Glass Canoe (click here for more). This time however, the interpretation is sonic and musical, rather than literary. There are four main characters in this version, and it goes a little bit like this…

Free Music Friday With Spacecamp And Yukon Blonde

Hi everyone and welcome to another musical edition of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday. Today we have two new bands for you, one from the East coast and one from the West. Spacecamp comes to us from Brooklyn (yes, another one from Brooklyn!). They released a 5 song EP in November called Alibi and we have a track form that EP called “Miko DTB” (dropped the ball). You can also stream the entire EP on Soundcloud. The second band, Yukon Blonde, is from Vancouver, BC. They are a four piece that remind us of a modern day Beach Boys with a George Harrison guitar. We are happy to offer a track called “Choices” off of their new Fire//Water EP.

Tribes – A Rhythm Seed Artist Spotlight

Tribes is a well needed return to straight up rock & roll; melodic guitar riffs, DIY mentality and loud anthemic tunes. No synths or programming, just an ambitious young band from the UK with great songs and a love for the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. They’ve been building a great buzz in the UK, supporting bands like The Pixies, Mystery Jets, The Kooks and Kaiser Chiefs and were just confirmed for the NME Awards 2012 tour in February with Two Door Cinema Club and Metronomy.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Project Rhythm Seed’s Free Music Friday. There are cities in the US that continually generate a lot of great new music. Tops on the list at present are Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon and New York, New York. Maybe because of slightly more affordable housing, Brooklyn has been particularly vibrant and prolific, with many bands specifically coming from the Williamsburg neighborhood. Our two groups highlighted today are fixtures on the New York music scene and we’re very pleased to offer you free tracks from each.
