Crocodiles Release Free Instrumental EP Today ‘Fires of Comparison’
Crocodiles released the free instrumental EP Fires of Comparison today. The San Diego duo who were brought together by their shared love of girl groups and punk, and feelings of small-town-alienation, have announced a US fall tour in conjunction with the release of their new album Sleep Forever, out September 14 via Fat Possum.
Fires Of Comparison was written and recorded between the completion of Sleep Forever and the band’s return to performing live. Produced by Jon Greene, the EP is comprised of ideas that the band weren’t able to explore, due to time constraints, during the Sleep Forever recording sessions in Joshua Tree, CA. Both boys contracted strep throat from sharing a pipe with a hobo in San Diego’s Presidio Park, hence the lack of vocals. These tracks are intended to be enjoyed under the mind-altering influence of 2XB-27, a drug concocted in Charles’ toilet by their friend, Dr. Russel Cash. Fires Of Comparison can be downloaded here.

Sleep Forever is the follow up to the acclaimed 2009 debut Summer of Hate, an album that had Rolling Stone declare “Welcome to the art-punk renaissance.” While still raw, Sleep Forever is an unmistakably more refined beast than its predecessor. Produced by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco man and producer of Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and Florence and the Machine), Sleep Forever was recorded in early 2010 at a homemade studio in Joshua Tree. “More krauty, more dub” are the watchwords that Crocodiles band members Brandon and Charles use to describe album.
Following a few previously announced US dates and a UK tour, Crocodiles will be back stateside for a full US tour in October. Brandon and Charles will once again be touring with a full five-piece live band – including drummer Alianna Kalaba, bassist Marco Gonzalez and keyboardist Robin Eisenberg. All dates below.
