• Ladies and Gentlemen, Introducing Kids Of 88

As a country, New Zealand hasn’t exactly been prolific in turning out music stars. But when they do, you can usually bet they will be guilty of producing some of the hookiest, down right infectious melodies known to man. Such is the case with Kids of 88. Jordan Arts & Sam McCarthy make up the band. They hail from Auckland, New Zealand. McCarthy covers vocals and programming, and is known for “complaining too much”. Arts is in charge of synthesizers and programming, and it’s been said that he “doesn’t complain enough”. I suppose that’s what makes them such a competent working duo. Yin and Yang – opposites attract!

The twosome describe their music as “a whimsy combination of dirt spitting kicks and feathering grit – an overdose of nightlife – the lubricated moan of spilled vodka and the hard realization of concrete – the happiness of blurry vision – an alleyway gang-bang between Grandmaster Flash and The Knack.”  I’m quite sure there is a Quentin Tarantino film tied up somewhere in that description.

Everyone in New Zealand know Kids Of 88 as the architects of the platinum selling debut single ‘My House’, and for their follow up single ‘Just A Little Bit’, which is a top seller on iTunes. And now its time for the rest of us to play a quick game of catch-up. Kids of 88 signed with Sony Records earlier this year, and will be releasing their first album on that label in the next few weeks. Keep your eyes open for it. In the meantime here is a video, released by the band for their song “Ribbons of Light”.
