Lenny Kravitz Crashes The VOP Choir’s Gig In New Orleans

By Myles Crawley
Well, today I’ve decided to do something a little bit different than usual. Time to change it up, so to speak. I was up late last night, actually until about 4 this morning, working on an in-depth project. When I finally decided to put it away for the day it took me a while to slow my brain down enough to actually climb into bed. At that point in time I could already hear the neighbors outside getting ready to head off to work, which really wasn’t helping matters any. So I thought I would check my email quickly to see if anything was shaking in ether-land at 4 in the morning. I opened MSN and perused the front page stories and noticed a link to a video of Lenny Kravitz. Well you know, I’ve never been much of a Kravitz fan. Don’t get me wrong – I think he’s a massively talented guy. It’s just his style of music has never been at the top of my listening list. But I thought, WTF, I’m gonna watch this video. Just for the hell of it.
The setup is this – From what I gather Lenny was hanging out in New Orleans. His tour had just been canceled and he was spending some extra time lounging before heading off to the Bahamas to work on his new album. He was sitting having a drink on the terrace where he was staying when he heard some music. It was actually a church choir band playing a rendition of Lenny’s song “Fly Away”.
Can you imagine their surprise when he showed up to listen? Now like I said, Kravitz is massively talented, which is made totally evident when he kicks the drummer off his drums and sits down and plays himself. The kids then talk him into singing lead vocals for a bit. It’s a great feelgood piece, and it’s awesome that things like that can and do actually happen. But folks, check out the lead guitar player. This kid smokes! He gives the camera person his name at the end of the video, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we see a whole lot more of him. So enjoy the video. It’ll be back to business as usual tomorrow.
