Mike Halloran teaching kids to read through Hip-Hop
Friend of the foundation, and local FM 94/9 San Diego music director and DJ Mike Halloran is taking reading to the next level with what he is calling the hip-hop of Dr. Suess. The idea is to provide kids that don’t immediately connect with reading, a new approach by providing a musical backbone, which makes reading more fun. Teaming up with fellow San Diego radio colleague Chris Cantore, the story highlights their visit to Fay Elementary in San Diego, CA. The next step for Halloran is to approach the hip-hop community and put together a CD with top artists putting their own beat to a famous rhyme. The story and idea have gained national attention and CNN produced a story highlighting the cause.
