Robert Francis is an old soul in a young man’s body. He sings and writes like he’s been on the planet for a lot longer than his 22 years would suggest. His new album, Before Nightfall, is dark and moody. It demands your full attention and cannot be digested easily in one sitting. It is the type of album that grows on you and reveals itself in time. Robert has spent a lot of time exploring other musicians, such as Townes Van Zandt, Karen Dalton and Gene Clark. These are not mainstream artists. You have to be prepared to get dirty if your going to dig deep enough to learn more about them. But Robert has done that. And in doing so has crafted himself as a writer and performer with real substance. Before Nightfall is out. You can buy it here for a reduced rate right now. Get it. But make sure you have enough time to commit to giving it a thorough listen.
While at Sunset Sessions, Robert sat down and spoke with Halloran. He also played a cut off Before Nightfall called “Mescaline“. Enjoy!
