    Fall Preview: New Releases to Keep on Your Radar

    While January may be the technical start of each new year, those of us who can’t shake thinking of life in terms of school reserve September as the real start of the year, even if we’ve left behind textbooks and classes years ago. As the hot summer months turn colder with the arrival of autumn, September is when the expectation of change hangs in the air (or here in Southern California, we have to be satisfied with blistering heat turning to a medium heat as we enter fall). So if we think of September as a fresh start, music lovers have a lot to look forward to because autumn is set to bring an array of exciting new releases. Here is a rundown of albums, in no particular order, that you can look forward to:

    Heineken City Arts Fest Spreads Out In Seattle

    The 2012 Heineken City Arts Fest begins on Oct. 17 with a performance by David Byrne & St. Vincent at Seattle’s historic Fifth Avenue Theatre. The festival will run through Oct. 20, with performances by Mos Def, Devotchka with the Seattle Rock Orchestra, Blind Pilot, Ghostland Observatory, Two Door Cinema Club, Reign Wolf at the Laser Dome, Joshua Radin, Collie Buddz, A Fine Frenzy, and many more taking place in iconic clubs, halls, and venues throughout Seattle. All access wristbands and staggered performance schedules allow festival attendees to explore downtown Seattle and see multiple shows in the same night.

    Paul Simon’s Graceland: 25th Anniversary Edition

    The 25th anniversary of Graceland, Paul Simon‘s groundbreaking album that continues to influence and inspire generations, will be commemorated with musical and film celebrations stretching into the summer. Following its Sundance Film Festival premiere, the Joe Berlinger directed documentary Under African Skies, chronicling the creation and lasting influence of Graceland, will have its US television premiere on A&E this spring. The documentary has been garnering critical acclaim on the film festival circuit with screenings at SXSW 2012, where it received an Audience Award, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Festival.
