Sunset Sessions Series – Casey McPherson from Alpha Rev

admin

Interview hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Rich Aquino.

Half Greek, half Latin, the words Alpha Rev pulled together loosely mean “the beginning of something new.” At least that’s how Texas-born musician Casey McPherson describes the name of the group he fronts. He goes on to say, “It’s that feeling when the light bulb goes off, that instant of inspiration and redemption, those moments that keep us going forward.”

On the last day of our adventure at Sunset Sessions, Tyler Hilton stopped by to speak with us. While there he played a beautiful song called ‘Sunset Boulevard’. This song will appear on a new EP coming out soon called Ladies and Gentlemen.

Sunset Sessions Series – Reni Lane

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Interview edited by Rich Aquino. Performance edited by Ryan Parker.

I heard Reni Lane for the first time while she was sound checking at Sunset Sessions. Getting a look was imperative because sonically I could tell there was something unique and above par about her. The visual supported that. She sports this shocking red/orange hair that suits her perfectly. Funny enough, when she sat down to talk to Halloran, she picked up a copy of David Bowie’s Low album that I had brought with me. She told us she was a huge fan of Bowie’s and dresses up as him at Halloween every year. As it turns out, her hair was the exact same color as Bowie’s on the front cover of Low. Coincidence? I think not.

Sunset Sessions – Holding Air Hostage

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Charlie Hatley.

Holding Air Hostage is a four-piece band based in San Diego, California, and is centered around the writing of award-wining singer/songwriter Jeremy Geltman, who first teamed up with guitarist/vocalist Tony Cafiso as an acoustic duo in January 2008. They were later joined by local musicians Jeff Ludwig and Dusty Norberg on bass and drums, respectively, and the band transformed from an acoustic duo into an amplified indie rock band.

Sunset Sessions Series – Sara Petite

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley.

By: Myles Crawley

Sara Petite is a hard working girl. If she’s not on the plane right now, then she just recently touched down in the UK for a new tour through Ireland and England. Sara’s not the kind of girl to wait around for an opportunity. A few years ago, after the death of her grandmother, she decided that she was going to become a working musician. Getting laid off helped her along a little as well. So she booked herself a tour through Ireland, made a record and started living the life. Sounds crazy to some I’m sure. There are those who are reading this right now and thinking, “Holy shit, I could never do that. What if I were to fail?” But the word fail is not in Sara’s vocabulary.

Sunset Sessions Series – Halloran chats up Megan Corkrey

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Charlie Hatley.

By: Myles Crawley

Megan Corkrey, or Megan Joy as she’s also known, wasn’t officially appearing at Sunset Sessions. She was kind of flying under the radar. Well, as much as a 6 foot tall girl with a blonde afro could anyway. Earlier in the day, Julie Muncy from Warner Bros. Records had come by and asked if we would be interested in interviewing Megan. Not being one to ever say no to a record exec, I said sure, absolutely.

Sunset Sessions Series – Bob Schneider

Bob Schneider. Even though he’s an institution in Austin, until about two months ago I had never heard of him. It was an interview opportunity with Bob that brought Project Rhythm Seed to Sunset Sessions. So I guess I owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Thanks Bob. Funny enough, I was just looking at his website and was amazed to see that he’s playing in Glasgow, Scotland (where I’m from) in April, and both shows are sold out! WTF? How in the hell do they know about him? Bob sat down and played a song for us called “Changing Your Mind“. That, and his interview with Halloran are below.

Sunset Sessions Series – Landon Pigg

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Jason Lehr.

Every once in a while we meet someone who makes an enormous positive impression on us. Landon Pigg is that type of person. When we arrived at Sunset Sessions we had no idea who he even was. But meeting him, and watching him effortlessly sing and play, changed that. Landon was polite, intelligent and well spoken, with no trace of an overblown ego.

Sunset Sessions Series – Halloran Speaks With Singer/Songwriter Maia Sharp

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Rich Aquino

Maia Sharp is a perfect example of why musical education is so important. In Maia’s case, she not only got it at school, but also at home. Both Maia’s parents are musically inclined and made sure that music was a big part of their home life. So it should come as no surprise that Maia has gone on to write songs for The Dixie Chicks, Art Garfunkel and Trisha Yearwood. She also toured with Bonnie Raitt for several years. Her new album, “Echo” is available now.

Sunset Sessions Series – Lisa Bouchelle

admin

Hosted by Michael Halloran. Produced by Myles Crawley. Edited by Jason Lehr

What do Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, Cyndi Lauper, and Daryl Hall have in common? Lisa Bouchelle has sung backup for them all. Lisa sat down with Halloran to talk about the music scene in New Jersey and her newest album, “Bleu Room With A Red Vase” which just released on march 10th. She was also kind enough to perform “Heaven on Credit” off of her new album for us.

The Sunset Sessions – A Series of Interviews and Performances

admin

By: Myles Crawley

Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to a host of new musical artists. Some you might have heard of, like NeedToBreathe, Daniel Merriweather or Bob Schneider. But for the most part this will be a first time experience. These artists are  newly signed, with their first CD’s being released soon. We met up with them at Michele Clark’s Sunset Sessions which, this year, was held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in Rancho Bernardo, California. Sunset Sessions is a three day event that brings together music supervisors for television and film,  music publishing library supervisors and Triple A format radio programmers.

Bob Schneider: What Happens After Sunset at the Sessions…

admin

Story and Photos by: Danica Waters

It’s Friday at Sunset Sessions. He enters the set at dusk: a slightly tousled, carefully-crafted, dark, almost brooding man donning dark glasses (even though the sun has long since been a threat…)

He is accompanied by a very excited, decidedly protective menagerie of industry professionals. They gather ‘round the set, keen to hear what Bob Schneider has to say to Project Rhythm Seed interviewer Michael Halloran…
