    Album Review: The Avett Brothers ‘The Carpenter’

    Building off the success of their first major label debut I and Love and You, the Avett Brothers are back with their special mix of gut-wrenching vocals and banjo-filled “grasspunk” in a new album entitled The Carpenter. Yes, the banjo is back! The longevity and consistency should not be overlooked, as it doesn’t matter how many albums they’ve released, this band from North Carolina manages to exude the same level of free-spiritedness, forceful balladry, and a sense of optimism that infuses their rich and varied sound.

    Menomena Debuts New Video

    Barsuk Records has just released Menomena‘s video for “Plumage,” off their new album Moms. The video was directed by Trevor McMahan, who described the clip as “the ultimate illustration of the beautiful conflict in the band’s music – that aural struggle between instruments and ideas that is complex, satisfying, and always unmistakably Menomena.”

    Muse Release The 2nd Law

    The 2nd Law, the sixth album from UK-based trio Muse, hits stores today via Warner Bros. Records. The album’s single “Madness” is currently the Number One song at Alternative Radio, the band’s third song to reach the top position on the chart. This Saturday, October 6th 2012, the band will return to Saturday Night Live to perform two songs from The 2nd Law.

    Madness Announce New Studio Album

    UK ska and pop band Madness have today announced details of their 10th studio album Oui, Oui, Si, Si, Ja, Ja, Da, Da, which will be released on October 30th, 2012. The band is also delighted to announce that the artwork for the album has been designed by the legendary British artist Sir Peter Blake. The first single, “My Girl 2” will be serviced to radio shortly.

    The Killers Release Battle Born and Announce New Tour

    The Killers will be releasing their 4th studio album, Battle Born, tomorrow September 18th, 2012 on Island Records.  Fans can stream it now via iTunes.  Click here for more.

    The Killers will also be hitting the road this winter with a full U.S. tour supporting Battle Born beginning after Thanksgiving.  The dates see the band playing their fourth show at New York City’s prestigious Madison Square Garden, among other venues.  Tegan and Sara will support on all dates, which are listed below.

    Chad Valley Releases First Track From New Album

    Chad Valley, aka Hugo Manuel of Oxford, UK’s Jonquil and the Blessing Force collective, has announced his debut full-length, Young Hunger, featuring collaborations with Twin Shadow, Glasser, Active Child, El Perro Del Mar, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and more. Released on October 30 via Cascine (US) and November 19 on Loose Lips (UK), the LP follows his last year’s Equatorial Ultravox, which as it turns out was one of our favorite albums of 2011.

    Bob Mould Premieres First Single Off New Album

    Bob Mould will release Silver Age, his first album of all new studio material since 2009’s Life And Times, September 4 on Merge. The new record features Bob’s current band–drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, the Mountain Goats) and bassist Jason Narducy (Split Single, Verbow)–on 10 brand new Mould compositions in the punishingly loud melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catalogue which was reissued via Merge on July 24.

    Album Review: Paleface One Big Party

    Life’s winding roads can take us down many paths, but when you’re committed to navigating the world on your own terms, it follows that you’ll cover enough ground for a wealth of experiences that are ripe for musical picking. This is particularly true for the long and varied career of Paleface, who has released a dozen records, toured all over the country, and inspired and collaborated with a boatload of talented artists. Recorded at Thunderdome Studios, One Big Party, produced by Paul ‘Ena’  Kostabi and Paleface, is his second full-length release under Ramseur Records, which houses notable acts like the Avett Brothers (bonus note: Paleface has collaborated and performed on three albums by the Avett Bros).

    Counting Crows Release New Album And Begin Second Leg Of Tour

    In the spirit of their new album Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation), Counting Crows will be introducing some of their favorite artists on the second leg of their headlining summer tour, The Outlaw Roadshow, which grew out of the Outlaw Roadshow indie rock showcases that Adam Duritz and Ryan Spaulding of Ryan’s Smashing Life have been staging at CMJ and SXSW in recent years. Supporting the Crows on The Outlaw Roadshow’s 2nd leg this summer will be We Are Augustines, Kasey Anderson and The Honkies, and Field Report.

    Soulsavers Release The Light The Dead See

    Venturing out from the studio to the road, Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of the band’s vast 2010 Tour of the Universe. Here, the seeds of The Light The Dead See were sewn. With Dave Gahan penning lyrics for the music and recording his own vocals in New York, then Rich Machin building up the results into fully-formed and arranged epics, the international project was a case of “chemistry working”. The album was mastered at Abbey Road earlier this year.

    The Whigs To Release New Album

    Smile To Release Debut Album

    The brainchildren behind two of Sweden’s most beloved musical projects have combined to form one artistic force, the result being an infectious pop revolution. Smile is the collaboration of Björn Yttling, world-renowned writer, producer and bassist of international indie-pop powerhouse Peter Bjorn and John, and Joakim Åhlund of bear-masked electro outfit Teddybears.     Rhythm Seed Artist Spotlight On Memoryhouse

    Memoryhouse formed some five years ago in the depths of southern Ontario, Canada, in a mid-size town called Guelph. It started as a collaborative project meant to serve as an artistic outlet for composer Evan Abeele and photographer Denise Nouvion. Evan, a dedicated student of classical music and an avid follower of pop-music, intended Memoryhouse to be a multimedia art project, pairing his instrumental compositions with Denise’s photographs and short films.
